(North County Beat) – In San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood, a 32-year-old motorist is in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the head while driving on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Polk Avenue near 36th Street, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.
The victim was traveling east on Polk Avenue when an unidentified assailant, who was walking in the vicinity, opened fire on the vehicle. The shooter discharged at least 16 rounds, striking the vehicle nine times and hitting the driver six times in the head. Investigators recovered 16 shell casings of 9mm caliber from the scene.
Emergency services rushed the injured driver to a nearby hospital, where medical staff classified his condition as critical but stable, indicating his injuries were severe but not immediately life-threatening.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the shooting. The suspect is described as wearing a light-colored hoodie and dark pants at the time of the incident.
