(North County Beat) – The County of San Diego proudly announces that McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad will see the return of commercial airline services. Starting in February 2025, American Airlines will offer two daily flights to Phoenix from the North County location.

This development marks the revival of commercial flights at Palomar, which ceased in 2015 due to changing economic conditions and airline interest.

American Airlines will operate smaller regional jets, akin to those currently servicing Palomar. The Federal Aviation Administration will oversee all flights, managing air traffic rules and controlling airspace. TSA will handle the required security screenings for the commercial flights.

The airport will continue to support ground services and provide a base for companies leasing space there.

“We are thrilled to offer this new service to the traveling public and look forward to working with American Airlines as one of our newest stakeholders,” said Palomar Airport Director Jamie Abbott.

McClellan-Palomar Airport contributes $165 million annually to the local economy and is a crucial community asset. It hosts several charter airline services that support both business and leisure travel and serves as a hub for emergency law enforcement and medical flights.

Tenants at the airport include Atlantic Aviation, Carlsbad Jet Center, Cutter Piper Sales, Civic Helicopters, Inc., Jet Methods, Inc., Latitude 33 Aviation, Schubach Aviation, JSX, Advanced Airlines, and Western Flight. The airport is also home to The Landings restaurant.
