(North County Beat) – Early on a Saturday morning in La Jolla, San Diego, a tragic incident unfolded when several reports came in about a disturbance involving a man wielding a knife in the 5400 block of La Jolla Boulevard.
Responding to the scene, San Diego police officers encountered a Hispanic man in his twenties standing near a vehicle in the roadway.
The situation escalated when the man approached the officers with a knife in hand. Despite verbal commands to drop the weapon, an officer discharged their firearm, fatally shooting the man.
The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as a member of the San Diego Police Department’s Northern Division with three years of service. Following standard procedure, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances and justification of the shooting.
Due to the ongoing investigation, the intersection at La Jolla Boulevard and Midway Street remained closed for several hours, disrupting local traffic.
