(North County Beat) – The San Diego Padres are undergoing a leadership transition, with John Seidler, the eldest brother of late chairman Peter Seidler, set to become the team’s new control person, pending Major League Baseball approval.
The move comes just over a year after Peter Seidler’s passing, with the franchise emphasizing continuity and a shared vision for the team’s future.
In a statement, the Padres acknowledged the impact of Peter Seidler’s stewardship, noting his commitment to the team as a community asset. John Seidler, an accomplished entrepreneur and part of the Padres ownership group since 2012, shares this philosophy.
He will continue to support the franchise’s efforts to balance competitive performance with financial sustainability.
Peter Seidler’s tenure saw a surge in spending, leading to significant playoff success and record attendance. However, with John Seidler at the helm, the Padres will further their shift toward a sustainable model that aligns with the realities of their smaller market.
Eric Kutsenda, interim control person since Peter Seidler’s passing, will retain a role within the organization. The team’s senior leadership, including CEO Erik Greupner and president of baseball operations A.J. Preller, will also remain in place.
The Seidler family and other key stakeholders, who collectively hold a significant share in the Padres, have reiterated their long-term commitment to the franchise and its community.
